Michael’s Foundation Pays for the Memorial Ceremony

Last July, a few days after Michael’s death, a grand and costly memorial ceremony for the King of Pop was held in Los Angeles.

After that, several city representatives protested the heavy cost of the event and demanded that the organizers pay the estimated $3.2 million to the city hall. Although experts believed that by bringing tourists and the media to Los Angeles, the memorial for Michael Jackson had generated more than $4 million in revenue for the city.

Now, one week before the anniversary of Michael’s death, his foundation and AEG—which was supposed to be the organizer of the This Is It concerts—have announced that they will pay $1.3 million to help the city cover the costs. This $1.3 million covers expenses such as providing police manpower, obtaining permits, health services, and city transportation that were carried out during the ceremony.

For general expenses such as security and parking spaces as well, the city’s general fund will pay the city hall.

One city council member said that this action shows that the foundation’s managers, AEG executives, and the Jackson family are conscientious and responsible citizens.
