Fans One Year After Michael’s Passing
In the past few days, fans came to the streets for Michael Jackson—from Los Angeles to Hong Kong. They gathered at the Apollo Hall in New York to observe a moment of silence in his honor.
People placed flowers by his star on Hollywood Boulevard, sang his songs, danced the moonwalk, and took photos. The situation was the same in his childhood home in Gary, Japan, Vietnam, Georgia, and European cities as well. In Tokyo, some fans were able to spend the night beside his memorabilia in the museum and reach the morning. German fans lit candles at night.
900 inmates from the famous Philippine prison also joined other countries’ people with a group dance in the presence of 500 tourists. With their Michael performances, these prisoners have turned their prison into a tourist attraction in the eyes of visitors.
On Friday, Michael’s siblings were present at Michael’s grave at Forest Lawn. More than 5,000 people had been there since the morning in the grounds to offer their flowers to him.

Catherine, Michael’s mother, unveiled her 2.5-meter memorial statue in Gary and said: “I’m sure my son would have been very happy and proud. The past year has been very difficult for us.”
Nearly a thousand people gathered outside the former Jacksons’ home in Gary. They placed flowers and cards behind the fences of the house. Michael’s children were not present that day.
