Broadway Theater Sues the Michael Jackson Foundation

The biggest Broadway company says that the trustees of the Michael Jackson Foundation do not allow them to create a musical based on his songs. The names of John Branca and John McClain are mentioned as plaintiffs in this lawsuit.

According to Underlander, in 2008 it obtained permission through a contract to produce a show based on Beat It, Billie Jean, and Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin.

The lawyer for the two foundation trustees, Howard Weitzman, says: “This contract states that in order to stage the performances, Michael Jackson’s official approval and his input and involvement in the production process are required. Unfortunately, Michael Jackson is no longer here to express his approval and participate in the production process. For this reason, I don’t think this contract is enforceable. This lawsuit has no legal merit.”
