J5 concerts discovered in the Motown vault

Jackson 5’s record-breaking 1970 concert at the Los Angeles Forum—now 40 years ago—and their second concert at the same venue in 1972 will be released for the first time this year.

“The Jackson 5: J5 Live @ The Forum” is a new two-CD set that, with its first release on June 29 this year, reveals an amazing chapter in Michael Jackson and his brothers’ career history as members of the Jackson 5. These performances include their concerts at the Los Angeles Forum on June 20, 1970, and August 26, 1972. Their first performance was the beginning of an upward path. Meanwhile, in the second performance in 1972, they had turned into musical symbols.

The Jackson brothers were heading out on their first national tour, and this new set is an interesting documentary of the formation of “Jacksonmania,” which later took the world.

The first disc includes the full Jackson 5 performance in June 1970, whose box office sales broke records. The second disc is the full Jackson 5 performance in August 1972, exactly three days before Michael’s 14th birthday.

Both discs also include an outstanding extra track.

A complete and previously unreleased version of “Mama’s Pearl” from a concert that was shown on television as part of the 1971 special program “Goin’ Back To Indiana” ends the first disc. At the end of the second disc, the song “I Wanna Be Where You Are” from the film music album Save The Children is included.

Other contents of this set include a cover of a song by James Brown titled “There Was a Time,” and a song by the Isley Brothers titled “It’s Your Thing.” Both of these are previously unreleased Jackson 5 songs that they performed in their concert at the Los Angeles Forum.
