Efforts to Bring Michael’s Name Back to School

A group of Michael fans, by setting up a website and also opening a page on Facebook, is trying to bring Michael Jackson’s name back to the entrance of the Gardner Elementary School auditorium in Hollywood. They have asked supporters to email a letter with specific details to the head of education for Los Angeles. In October 1989, the school’s faculty named the auditorium “Michael Jackson.” Michael attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the students’ choir sang “We Are The World” in his presence. At that time, Michael donated money to the school. But in 2003, following the proposal of charges against Michael, the school hid his name under a cover, claiming it was at the request of the students’ parents. Although in 2005 Michael was fully acquitted in court of charges of molesting a 13-year-old boy, after several years the cover over Michael’s name has still not been removed.

This group of fans wants Michael Jackson’s name to be returned to the school auditorium entrance once again. In their statement, which has been reflected in Los Angeles Times news, ABC, and even Larry King’s program on CNN, they said:

“This practice should not continue. Please help us convince school officials to remove the cover over Michael Jackson’s name and put his name back in public view.”
