“Michael Jackson Saved My Grandma”

In December 1997, my mother’s parents, Joseph and Constance Delaisey, traveled by air to Los Angeles to visit my family for Christmas. A few hours after the flight, my grandmother’s condition worsened. What began as a stomachache ultimately caused her to collapse in the airplane aisle and pass out. When she regained consciousness, she saw Michael Jackson standing beside my grandfather.
He extended his hand and said in a gentle voice, “Are you okay?”
He helped my grandmother stand and invited the two of them to the first-class section of the plane. They agreed. While my grandmother rested in her seat, my grandfather enjoyed the first-class service and chatted with Michael Jackson. They talked about family, food, and Italy (my grandfather’s interests).
The moment they landed, Michael offered to take them home. They accepted. My grandmother was taken from the airport to Michael’s limousine in a wheelchair. Of course, to escape the meddling of news photographers, they had to change their limousine three times.
When they finally got settled inside the car, Michael put on his favorite movie (Men in Black) for them, and they sat together to watch.
When they arrived at my childhood home, my mother opened the door and saw Michael Jackson standing behind my parents with slumped shoulders, carrying their luggage.
Michael comes inside, sets the suitcases on the floor, and stands in front of the Christmas tree. He’s captivated by the beauty of the tree and by the love of the family.
My mother, completely in shock, didn’t have the strength to pick up the camera and record the scene, but instead invited Michael to join them for their Christmas celebration. He politely declined, returned to his limousine, and headed to his home, Neverland.
Although no photo was taken, he left my family with an amazing memory—one that shows Michael Jackson’s true, pure heart and love.
And this is the first-class menu he signed for my grandmother and grandfather inside the airplane:
