A Portion of the 3D Earth Song Video Released

A portion of the 3D video “Earth Song” that Michael had created for display during the This Is It tour concerts has been shown on the Grammys page on YouTube. This 30-second clip shows a little girl skipping through a paradise of plants and butterflies. The video will be shown in full at the Grammy Awards ceremony on January 31 as a tribute to the stage and music legend. In this video, there is no image of Michael—only his voice is used. Ken Ehrlich, one of the executive producers of the Grammy Awards, says: “ I thought we shouldn’t bring on stage one of those songs that we just like to watch performed by Michael and try to imitate him. Songs like Billie Jean, Beat It, and many others. But Earth Song gave us the feeling that in a way we could represent Michael. It’s a tribute to him. The song was very important to him. The video begins with beautiful images of the environment and a sign of Michael’s childlike love for animals and birds and dolphins. A beautiful little girl falls asleep in a dreamlike forest, and when she gets up, everything changes and is destroyed. The environment is gone and the trees have been cut down.” The Grammy Awards ceremony is broadcast on CBS in the United States. Along with retail company Target, CBS has provided free 3D glasses for all interested viewers starting January 24 to watch this video.
