Four AMA Awards for Michael Jackson

On Sunday evening, November 22nd, the 37th annual American Music Awards (AMA) took place in Los Angeles. At the ceremony, Michael was nominated for 5 awards with his album Number Ones, and he won 4 of them. Jermaine attended the event on behalf of his brother Michael to receive the award. The ceremony was opened by Jannet Jackson, Michael’s sister, with a medley of her own best songs. Michael was nominated in the categories of Artist of the Year, Best Male Artist in R&B/Soul, Best R&B/Soul Album, Best Male Artist in Pop Rock, and Best Pop Rock Album.

With the 4 awards he won the night before, Michael brought his total number of American Music Awards to 23. That means the highest number of awards ever given to a single person in AMA history. 19-year-old Taylor Swift, whose year has been full of success for her, won Artist of the Year and won 5 awards that night. When she accepted the Artist of the Year award, she said: "In music, competition has never been important to me. Being nominated in the same category as Michael Jackson—someone we will always miss and love—is an honor beyond imagination for me." Jermaine, who has been Muslim for a few years, thanked Allah for the kindness he shows to his family when receiving Michael’s award, and he named all his brothers and sisters.
