This Is It ticket pre-sales set a record

Michael isn’t just setting records in sales—now the pre-sales of tickets for his rehearsals are also setting records. The rocket launch of This Is It movie tickets took off from Sunday, September 27, and it is said that there are currently no signs of interest slowing down. That means Michael will have a new record in the ticket pre-sale rate—something that has never happened in film history before.

People in Los Angeles camped out around the box offices three days before ticket sales for the film’s first screenings began, and 3,000 tickets sold in just two hours. In other cities too, tickets for the film are selling at a similar pace.

At present, 80% of online pre-sales in the United States are for This Is It tickets. During the first 24 hours, pre-sales were so dominant that they were compared to the new films Avatar and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

But in the UK, this film has overshadowed pre-sales records for Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The head of the film-buying company View Entertainment, Stewart Borman, says that on the first day in London, more than 30,000 tickets were pre-sold. He adds:

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my 25 years of work. This is a real phenomenon. And in ticket sales, there’s no sign of slowing down.”

Sony has informed that in cities around the world, people have rushed to buy tickets:

“An unprecedented number of theaters in the United States have sold out, and London, Sydney, Thailand, Bangkok, and Tokyo have experienced similar situations.”

During the first 24 hours, people in Japan spent more than one million dollars of their money buying tickets for this film. In France, Australia, and New Zealand, tickets also sold out.

Sony says such pre-sales have no precedent in film history worldwide.
