Jackson Family Upset Over Film Broadcast of the Ceremony

Randy Jackson, Michael’s younger brother, announced his and his family’s dissatisfaction with the broadcast of a film of Michael’s funeral ceremony that was taken without permission by media helicopters: "Last night and this morning, I was horrified to see our ceremony on television. We had asked the media to respect our privacy and the sanctity of this ceremony and to give us the chance to mourn as a family in solitude, away from the spotlight and the noise. Unfortunately, many news agencies decided to reject our request. They brought in helicopters and not only filmed our ceremony secretly, but also severely disrupted what we were doing. As Michael’s family, we know how his life and death have affected many people around the world. That’s why we previously held a public memorial for my brother (July 7 at Staples Center in Los Angeles). And that’s why we decided to give the media a small portion of the film from yesterday’s ceremony. So today, I’m asking the media outlets that broadcast the film without permission to stop it immediately. And to refrain from broadcasting it in the future as well." The ceremony on September 3 took place at 8:30 PM at Forest Lawn in the landscaped grounds of the Holly Terrace burial site. About 200 invited guests attended, including famous faces such as Elizabeth Taylor, Macaulay Culkin, Quincy Jones, Chris Tucker, and many others.
