Dick Gregory Fasts for Michael

Dick Gregory, 77-year-old American comedian and influential social activist and a longtime friend of Michael, announced that he is fasting for Michael for 40 days.

“I’m fasting for Michael for 40 days and I consume nothing but water until the truth about his death is made clear. I don’t want to hear the story again about the sudden death of the King of Pop—one of the most prominent and talented people in the world. It’s hard for people to lose someone they loved, especially if that person was as young as Michael. All I’m praying for right now is that the truth about what happened will be revealed, and I don’t think it has been said yet—but people have the right to know. There are many things that have been kept hidden under the name of what they call ‘the progress of the investigation.’”

Mr. Gregory has pledged to continue his all-night vigils and prayers, and he has invited everyone who loved Michael to join him and pray and offer supplications for the truth to come to light.

He previously did the same in 2005 during Michael’s trial, fasting for 40 days for him and for the revelation of his innocence.

With his comedic style, Dick Gregory paved a new path for Black people in comedy shows. He was one of the first comedians to attract both Black and white audiences. His impactful social humor gave white audiences a fresh understanding of Black comedy.
