Conrad Murray’s video message

Conrad Murray, in a video posted on YouTube, thanks those who have supported him during this time. He looks into the camera and calmly says, “I did everything I could. I told the truth, and I believe that the truth will prevail.”

This is the first time Conrad Murray has spoken publicly since Michael’s death. The video was recorded at Murray’s home in Houston last week. Conrad Murray was with Michael on the day he died. After he had injected propofol and left him alone to answer his phone calls, when he returned to the room he realized that Michael had lost consciousness and was not breathing. It took half an hour to contact emergency services. Paramedics, after arriving at Michael’s room, observed Murray performing resuscitation efforts on Michael.

Dr. Conrad Murray is under police investigation as a suspect in involuntary manslaughter, but so far no formal charges have been filed against him. After Michael died and Conrad Murray’s name was raised as the person responsible for his death, he received death threats from unknown individuals and was forced to hire security. He has not worked since the day Michael died, and he has closed his practice in Las Vegas. Murray became isolated at his Las Vegas home, but received messages of support from patients and friends.

“Because of everything that’s going on, I’m afraid to answer my phone or use email. That’s why I recorded this video—to let you know that I received your messages. Your messages gave me strength and mean the world to me.”

Gregory Lee, a retired employee of the drug oversight agency, says that in his view Conrad Murray recorded this video to repair his public image. “This doctor has been portrayed as a monster-like figure, and he’s trying to make himself human.”
