A Michael portrait will be drawn soon

After Michael’s death, the artist David Elan decided to create a portrait of Michael on canvas. The special feature of this portrait is that it is completed with colored dots. The artist asked fans around the world to take part in his online vote. Each vote represents a fan—one dot is added to the portrait for each vote. He announced that he needs 250,000 dots, or in other words 250,000 votes, to get started. So far, nearly 180,000 votes have been collected.

Now, on the website he has set up for this portrait, the artist has announced that one day before Michael’s birthday—at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 28—he will place the first dot on the portrait at the Center for the Performing Arts in Hollywood, in a ceremony that will be accompanied by cutting a red ribbon. The first dot is for Michael, and the next three dots are for his children. Invited guests, Michael’s relatives, and the three contest winners will receive their dots at this event. Only invited media will be present that day. The website for this portrait—www.MichaelJacksonTributePortrait.com—will go live on the same day.

On this website, fans can add dots to the portrait and also post a message to be attached to their dot on the site. Each dot has a number, and it can be said that it is “documented” in the name of the fan who donated it. The location of each dot on the portrait will also be specified. This is the only ongoing project that allows fans across the world to become, easily and permanently, part of Michael Jackson’s legacy.

It is expected that completing this portrait will take three months. After the portrait is completed with the dots of one million fans and is displayed in exhibitions around the world, it will be installed in a place worthy of its stature and home—announced by a special guest on Friday.

David Elan will begin placing fans’ dots on this portrait at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 29, in the courtyard of the Gramenes residence at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Fans who attend in person will be able to witness these dots being placed. Michael’s Walk of Fame star is also located on Hollywood Boulevard, across from the Chinese Theatre.
