Michael’s Songs Sales Soar

Isn’t it upsetting when artists are given attention after their deaths and their work is honored... After his death, Michael’s albums topped music charts around the world. The impact of his passing was felt immediately in the music sales market. Demand for his songs was so high that almost all of them sold out, leaving music stores empty. The best-selling Michael albums in the past week were Number Ones and The Essential Michael Jackson, which are in fact collections of his greatest hits. Also, the new version of the album Thriller has been among Michael’s best-selling albums. The reason given for the high sales of these albums is that because they were released between 2003 and 2008, their versions were available in music stores. In the virtual world, too, Michael set records. One day after his death, 9 out of every 10 best-selling albums and 40 out of every 100 best-selling singles belonged to Michael Jackson. Michael’s Number Ones album, released in 2003, rose from number 121 to the top of the UK chart in the week of his death. Four other of his albums also entered the top twenty. Thriller jumped from number 179 to number 7. King Of Pop landed at number 14, and Off The Wall at number 17. The Essential Michael Jackson took number 20. In the UK’s best-selling singles chart, 43 of Michael’s songs appeared among the top 200 daily best-sellers, and it was reported that the King of Pop sold 300,000 copies of singles and albums in the UK within just two days after the news of his death was announced. The song Man in the Mirror entered the chart at number 11 almost 20 years after its release. Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Beat It, and Earth Song have also returned to the best-sellers chart and are climbing. Examples of the world music charts from the past week are as follows.
