Googoosh’s Statement About Michael Jackson’s Death

Ms. Googoosh wrote on her blog:

“For me, on these days full of anxiety, worry, and grief at the loss of the youth of Iran, hearing the news of Michael Jackson’s passing made me even more saddened, because I love him—because he was an artist with a distinctive and avant-garde style, with a special way of presenting his art, and because he was followed and emulated everywhere in the world. For years, singers and dancers right here in America have been following in his footsteps. Since my youth, I followed and pursued the art of this talented child and loved him—until he grew up. And during the difficult years of war in Iran, his ‘Thriller’ album was even if only for a short time, a balm and a moment of relief for me… May his soul rest in peace—he always wanted us to be happy, but he himself was never happy except when he was on stage.

I offer my condolences to his fans.”
