Years ago, the manager of this group gave Michael permission to create a similar song. This song is Michael’s take on a song by the group America titled A Horse with No Name, released in 1971.
Now, members of the band, the duo of Dan Hill and Jerry Beckley, said in a statement that Michael Jackson’s choice of their song to present a fresh and different interpretation of it is an honor for them.
Jim Morey, the manager of America in the 1970s—who also served as Michael’s manager in the late 1980s and early 1990s—said that the band members are proud that Michael chose their song, and they hope that one day all of Michael’s fans will hear it.
In the band’s statement, they said: "It is an honor for us that Michael Jackson chose our song to record. We were impressed by the quality of his version. We hope this song will be released soon so people around the world can listen to it in full and experience once again Michael Jackson’s incomparable and unmatched talent. Michael Jackson truly did justice to what this song deserved, and from the bottom of our hearts we hope that his fans and our fans will be able to listen to this song in full. This song is truly impactful and moving."
A Place With No Name is the first leaked song from Michael Jackson’s vault—or better yet, his gold mine of songs that no one has heard yet.
It is still not clear in which year Michael recorded and produced this song.
