Rodney Jerkins’ comments about Michael’s new album

Rodney Jerkins (Rodney Jerkins), who collaborated with Michael on the 2001 album Invincible as a producer, spoke about Michael and his new album in a recent interview:

“Michael asked me to go to Vegas and work on his album... The thing is, right now my head is very busy and I have a lot of things to do, and I need to focus on them. And maybe when he finishes his work on the album, I’ll go to him and work with him. But I can’t constantly go to Vegas for one or two years and work on an album.

I think he should do a tour. When you’re an artist at that level, people want to see your performances. As music consumers, we buy the voices of singers. But when it comes to someone like Michael Jackson, it’s true that we love his voice, but we also love his show. So we want to see him performing. And the only thing we have from his performances are the video clips and old concerts released on DVD.

I go on YouTube and look for Michael Jackson’s performances at MTV awards or his other performances. We all want to see his performance.

Well, you know, whether he’s willing to perform or ready to perform has to depend on his own judgment and decision.

Janet hasn’t performed since the end of the Velvet Rope tour. I kept telling her, ‘You have to come back and perform. Your fans want this.’ I hope Michael does the same. I hope he says, ‘Okay, I’m going to do a tour,’ and I think that once the album is ready and he starts the tour, it will turn into a huge project. That will promote and help the success of his album.

Because when he does a tour and has live performances, he shows everyone that no one is better than him. No matter how old he is, no matter what song—old or new—if he performs it, no one can perform better than him. No one will have a better show than him.”
