Akon on Hold My Hand

Akon, the young Black singer, says that after achieving his highest goal in his music career—working with Michael Jackson—he can announce his retirement. He said this in an interview with MTV USA on Tuesday: “Working with Michael was a dream for me. You know, when you enter a career, you have goals in mind and you plan where to start and where it will end. I made a list of everyone I wanted to work with. Michael was at the top of that list. I told myself that if one day I could work with Mike, then I would be ready to retire. But 10 years earlier than what I expected, I ended up working with Michael. So I decided not to retire. I think this was finally one of those serious opportunities that came to me when I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t think I had worked that hard to get his attention. But his attention to me proved that I succeeded.” The song resulting from the collaboration between Akon and Michael Jackson is called Hold My Hand, and it found its way to the internet secretly some time ago. The two are hyping the song up, and Akon promises that: “This will create a global buzz. It will be huge. The direction of this work is to bring all people together as one unit of one world. In the current situation of the world, with all these wars and conflicts happening everywhere, I think we need a song like this. This is the best time for a voice to be heard. I told myself, what better than for my voice and Mike’s voice to be the ones that can say something in this situation.” Akon also said that Michael is expected to appear in the video for Hold My Hand. The song will be featured on Akon’s long album titled Acquitted, which is being prepared for release in October 2008.
