Something Like a Mirage: Michael’s Phone Call to His Fans in Devon

On Sunday, June 8, a celebration titled “Michael Jackson and the Jacksons” was held to welcome members of the Jackson family who had traveled to the UK, at the Durand House Hotel in Devon, England. During the event, Michael surprised around 300 fans in the Northam area of Britain with his phone call from Las Vegas. He personally called the Durand House Hotel to speak with his brother Tito and his children, Taj and T.J., who are members of the music group 3T.

Julie Finn, the hotel manager, said that at 8 p.m., a call from reception was connected to her office. She said:

“It was kind of like a mirage and a fantasy. I was waiting in my small room with the Jacksons, and Channel 4 in the UK was filming us. We connected a phone line to the dance hall, and when the connection was made, the fans realized Michael was on the line—it was amazing.”
