Official Statement on the Release of the WBSS 2008 Single

Sony BMG has released its press statement regarding the release of the single “Wanna Be Startin Somethin,” which is a new version of the song of the same name from the 1982 Thriller album. The new song is performed by Akon, the American Black singer.

The statement says:

“Epic/Legacy and the RCA Group are proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the best-selling music album in the world, ‘Thriller,’ by releasing a new version of the flawless, top-tier song ‘Wanna Be Startin Somethin.’ This new version, with a spiritual and undeniably compelling sound, is one of the best songs of 2008.

Akon is responsible for singing this song, while also playing a role in producing the work alongside the legendary person, Michael Jackson. Michael hasn’t released any new work for 7 years.

Since the release of Thriller 25th in February 2008 (a new version of Thriller made by young artists to mark its 25th anniversary), the album has entered the charts as one of the top 10 best-selling albums in almost every country in the world. As soon as it was released in the UK, it entered at number three on the chart, showing the high demand from the public for this historic album.”

The new single is scheduled to be released on May 26.
