Michael Jackson returned to the Indianapolis area for the postponed court hearing. Michael arrived at the Canterbury Hotel, where he is staying in Indianapolis, on Monday night, May 19, and shortly after that, around 8:00 p.m. local time, he went to the Circle Center shopping center. There, some of his fans welcomed him. Before returning to the hotel, Michael stopped by several stores in the area around 10:40 p.m. Each shop would close to other customers when Michael entered, but Michael invited several fans inside, spoke with them, and had them sign autographs. For example, he spoke with several members of a high school volleyball team from Oklahama who had managed to get into a store. According to Indy Star News, Michael extended his hand to seven-year-old Debby Esparza, shook her hand, and talked to her about the rhinoceros on the red shirt she was wearing: "I like this label." Michael also signed a one-dollar bill for Debby, a second-grade student. Debby told the magazine, "He was really funny, cool, and sweet."



Nineteen-year-old Erik Williams and eighteen-year-old Darrick Neal were shopping when they saw the crowd and went over that way. They say that when we called Michael's name, he came toward us and signed a photo for each of us. Neal says, "He's the King of Pop and he's from Indiana!"
