Uri Geller’s Concern About Martin Bashir’s Interview

Uri Geller, one of Michael’s friends, expressed his concern about the program Living with Michael Jackson and said he fears the producers of this program may have turned it into a “freak show.” Uri said his concern stems from television and newspaper advertisements that emphasize the interesting aspects of Michael’s private life. He announced that he would be very angry if this documentary (which, in fact, he had encouraged Michael to join after his personal meeting with Bashir) did not portray Michael as a more realistic person. He said: “Michael liked Martin and was happy to have him around. I told him, ‘Michael, maybe it’s time you told your story to the world.’ But now I’m a bit worried, because it seems like a sensational program. I see three possible scenarios for this program. One: very good, balanced, and positive about Michael. Two: only an attempt to depict an odd, strange image of Michael. Three: very negative and insulting, and not fair.“

He criticized the producers of “Living with Michael Jackson” for rejecting his request to have a copy of the interview ready for broadcast, and said that if the film is not fair, he would feel that they have done him wrong. “I gave the hot news of the century to the Tonight program, and I will be infinitely angry if they do me wrong, because I, Uri Geller, have been fooled.”
