A Special Program on NBC
The American television network NBC plans to air Michael Jackson’s Face, a program that was broadcast in the UK last fall and drew reactions from Michael’s fans. Of course, the name of the program has been changed for American viewers to Michael Jackson Unmasked (Michael Jackson without a mask). One of the English members of the EMJ site writes in a letter: “... The program included the views of Michael’s defenders, including his brother Jermaine and the director of a series of his works, John Landis. Unfortunately, the program was edited by an irresponsible group. The announcer and the text on Michael’s image referred to him exclusively as Wacko (an insulting nickname the media created for him, rhyming with Jacko, a shortened form of his name, taken from wacky, meaning ‘crazy’). At the same time, the program aired remarks from one of Michael’s old assistants and from Michael’s sister, Latoya, which were very bitter. Overall, there wasn’t anything more than an hour of insults and guesses to present an image of Michael as a strange, odd human being...“
Other fans around the world who had seen this program via satellite or on recorded tapes also expressed dissatisfaction with the comments mentioned in the program and the way it was edited. Michael is upset about NBC’s latest decision to air this program, and his spokesperson told Reuters: “I think it’s terrible that NBC decided to air such a special program about Michael. I think there are much more important issues in the world that should be addressed.” The broadcast date for the program has been announced as 28 Bahman.
