New Will.i.am comments about working with Michael

These days, Michael and Will.i.am are busy working on Michael’s new album in a studio in New York, and according to Will, they work on the album every day:

“We work on the album every day. A few of the songs are finished. I feel good about what I’m doing and I’m really happy. But this album isn’t mine to talk about. I can talk about the songs or what kind of rhythm they have. But maybe the songs I built won’t be his taste and won’t make it onto the album, and if I talk about them now, I might look stupid later.”

But how was it working in the studio with a legend?

“It was the hardest work I’ve ever done in my life. I told him: ‘You know Mike, I know how to work with Justin. I know how to work with Fergie. I know how to work with John Legend. I know how to work with these people. But it’ll probably take me four or five days to get the hang of working with you.’ He said: ‘Why? I like your work.’ We had that conversation, and I was able to guide the direction of our talk and not be the kind of person who just says: ‘Oh my God, it’s Michael Jackson!’ But you shouldn’t let it affect your work when you’re in the studio with newcomers. These newcomers sometimes have really good ideas, but because you’ve worked with Michael Jackson, their ideas don’t seem that special to you. It’s like you’re taming a lion when you’re dealing with a legend, and you have to forget all these experiences when you’re dealing with cats.”
