The Jackson family statement rejecting rumors against Michael
Following the publication of an article in People magazine about Michael’s alleged drug and alcohol addiction, as well as the airing of inaccurate reports on the same matter by USTV in the Showbiz Tonight program, Raymone Bain—Michael’s spokesperson on behalf of his family—released the following statement, strongly condemning these actions in the media:
“The false reports about my son and brother Michael Jackson’s addiction to drugs and alcohol are among the most upsetting of all these rumors.
People magazine, following the approach of other publications, has turned to false and untrue reporting about Michael Jackson and his family.
People and other publications, citing sources, have stated that our family is trying to free Michael from the addiction problem and take control of his professional life.
We firmly reject this. We deeply believe that the sources and others—whoever they may be—are seeking their own financial interests through these rumors.
Michael Jackson and the Jackson family have endured these accusations and the way they have been portrayed in a bad light for years. It is time for these unfair and harassing rumors to come to an end.
With respect,
Tito Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Jermaine Jackson and Katherine Jackson.”
