Day by day with Michael Jackson in London
Thousands of fans from all over the world arrived in London to see Michael’s first performance after several years. After seeing photos of Michael in Tuesday morning newspapers, they all went to his accommodation, the five-star hotel, the Hempel. The first floor of this hotel was reserved for Michael’s use by the people in charge of the World Music Awards. Michael, who stayed in the back rooms of the hotel, used the front rooms to wave at his fans. Around 12:00 p.m., the fans began shouting and calling his name. Then they started singing They Don’t Really Care About Us. At that moment, the curtain moved slightly and a shadow appeared behind it. Everyone shouted because they knew this was one of Michael’s usual habits. He kept moving from one window to another, and sometimes he would wave from the corner of the curtain without his face being seen. But after a few minutes, there was no sign of him.
This time, the police tightly connected the barriers in front of the fans and stood in front of them. Reporters readied their cameras, and a black Mercedes-Benz pulled up in front of the park entrance.

Everyone realized he would come out soon. After a few minutes, the bodyguards came out and the fans called his name again. After a few moments, his children came out with their nanny and got into the car very quickly. Finally, Michael came out holding Blanket (Prince Michael 2) in his arms. He put Blanket in the car, and in response to the fans who were shouting “We love you, Michael,” he quickly pulled himself up toward the top of the car and waved. He was wearing a red outfit with a black raincoat and black striped pants. Everyone went wild—some guards were opened up and people ran toward his car.
He opened part of the car door and smiled at them. The police moved the fans away from Michael and the car started moving. The next question was where he had gone now. Based on the news everyone had heard from all around, he was supposed to go to Earl’s Court for rehearsal at 11 p.m., but there was still a lot of time until then. After asking a lot of questions from the police and hotel officials, some people realized that he first went to Guinness Records to receive his awards, and then he would go to a Chinese restaurant to have a family dinner with his children. He had also ordered a large bucket of fried chicken from KFC the night before at one of the cheap, ordinary restaurants. This news became the headline topic of newspapers: why he wasn’t going to expensive, luxurious restaurants like other celebrities.
Many fans decided not to follow him and to let him have peace with his family. He canceled his last-night rehearsals for the World Music Awards so he could definitely spend the night with his children. There was a lot of excitement among the fans for the ceremony on Wednesday night…
