Details of the 29th Court Session

Today’s court session was devoted to the statements of the complainant’s mother in the witness stand.

Before she testified, she said she had seen Jackson licking the head of her son, and yet she had allowed him to sleep in Michael Jackson’s bedroom. While speaking with difficulty, she asked the jury not to judge her.

Janet Arvizo, crying, said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve slept. I’ve been waiting for this court for two years.”

She then used her own arm to demonstrate the act of licking: “Like this, again and again.” She claimed that Jackson licked her son’s head while they were on a night flight from Miami to Los Angeles, in the same way she described in court.

“I thought I was the only one who was a witness to this. Everyone else was asleep.”

She said she had been unaware of the filming of her son for the documentary “Living with Michael Jackson.”

She added that until February 2003, when Michael told her on the phone that the lives of her children were in danger, she had not spoken to him personally.

“He spoke to me in a normal, masculine voice.” Arvizo, while pointing to Jackson sitting motionless behind the table for the defense attorneys, added, “He told me to believe him and trust him. He said he would protect us from killers. He said he would be more than a father to my children.”

She explained that Michael had asked her to travel with her three children to Miami so they could participate in a press conference held to condemn the documentary made by Martin Bashir, “Living with Michael Jackson.” But according to her, there was no such press conference.

She continued by saying that after arriving in Miami, she checked into a hotel, and then Jackson and his staff took her children out of the hotel.

“When I started asking questions, stupid things happened.”

She said that on the way back, Jackson’s senior security officer told her that if she stayed quiet, she could accompany Jackson and her own children on this trip. She claims that on this trip she saw Jackson licking her son’s head. And as planned, she stayed quiet.

As the complainant’s mother continued her testimony, it seemed that the jury members gradually became indifferent to her emotional and unexpected behavior.

She laughed, cried, and addressed the jury in a casual tone. Whenever she pronounced Jackson’s name, she pointed her finger toward him.

To address the names of the people who had helped her with her son’s cancer, she used their first names—such as Chris (Chris Tucker) or George (George Lopez).

In describing the car Michael had bought for his former wife, she said, “It was just like an O.J. Simpson car.”

The prosecution claims that immediately after returning the complainant’s family from Miami, Jackson had them imprisoned at Neverland so that they would be kept away from the press that had been stirring controversy after the documentary “Living with Michael Jackson” aired. The complainant’s mother claims that her sons slept in Michael’s room at Neverland.

In court, she complained about the way Jackson’s employees treated them, calling them “those Germans.” According to her, they called her “stupid woman” and threatened her that if she upset them, “they’ll screw you over.” These two are Konitzer and Wiesner, who are not facing legal prosecution.

She said she had begged a Spanish maid to borrow Jackson’s Rolls Royce from her and secretly take her and her children out of Neverland. She said that a few days later she had returned to Neverland.

The complainant’s mother also admitted that she had been present in the second part of the documentary “Living with Michael Jackson.” She said Jackson’s employees had assured her that as long as she appeared in the documentary, they would protect her from the killers who were looking for her.

Addressing the jury while raising her voice, she said, “You know what? In the end, they became the killers themselves.”

For most of today’s session, Thomas Mesereau had chosen silence. Apparently he decided to let the witness’s inappropriate remarks and tense behavior speak for themselves.

The complainant’s mother spoke so warmly and enthusiastically and kept interrupting prosecutor Ron Zonen that eventually the prosecutor had to remind his own witness. “You’re driving the court reporter crazy in the end.”

Before the prosecutor could even ask a question he had not yet managed to ask, he responded to the complainant’s mother’s very long answer with an ironic “Anyway.”

When the prosecutor asked how many times Jackson’s employees had taken her to Brentwood for leg epilation, the complainant’s mother shouted with passion, “Have this one. I paid for it myself. That’s right.”

She claimed that after that, Jackson’s employees moved her to her boyfriend’s apartment (her current husband) and returned her children to Neverland. But then the family reunited, and then allegations of sexual abuse against Michael Jackson took shape.

The complainant’s mother also said that under her legal rights she was not required to answer questions about fraud involving charitable organizations. For this reason, the defense attorneys asked the judge to issue an order to force the complainant’s mother to testify on this matter.

The continuation of the complainant’s mother’s testimony was postponed until tomorrow’s session.
