Court Session 20

Michael Jackson appeared in court today in great spirits. He waved to his fans who were shouting, and raised his fist in a gesture of victory.

In today’s court session, Jamie Masada—an American born in Iran and the manager of the Laugh Factory company—was called to the witness stand. He said that the complainant, back in 1999, attended their camp with his sister and brother, which had been set up to help children in need. He also stated that after the complainant was diagnosed with cancer, he visited him in the hospital.

He added that he would take other comedians to visit the complainant in the hospital. Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, and Chris Tucker are among them.

Masada said that the complainant met Michael Jackson through him. The boy had told Masada that Michael Jackson was his “idol” and that he wanted to see him. Masada also made many phone calls to Jackson’s office, but all of them went unanswered—until Jackson called the boy in August 2000 and invited the complainant’s family to Neverland.

Masada said that once, shortly after the documentary “Living with Michael Jackson” aired in February 2003, during a phone call, the complainant’s mother told him that she was imprisoned in Neverland and that she and her children were being kept there against their will. He said that the complainant’s mother asked him for help.

Masada also said that the complainant’s mother never asked him for money.

Another witness in today’s session was Cynthia Bell, a flight attendant from Miami to Santa Barbara, who said she was carrying the complainant and his family, three private teachers, a doctor, and Michael Jackson’s children. She testified that during the flight she brought alcohol for Michael in special beverage cans.

“Mr. Jackson likes to drink alcohol in private. ” Bell continued, “I suggested that they drink alcohol in soda cans. That was my idea.”

Bell told the jury that she believes Michael did not want the children to know that he was drinking alcohol. She said that during the three flights she had taken with Jackson, she had never seen him share his soda cans with the children or give them alcohol.

She also described the complainant as “extremely rude.” Bell added that during the flight from Miami to Santa Maria, the complainant was speaking very loudly and bragging about the expensive watch Jackson had given him. She said he also threw his food around for play and complained about his chicken kebab getting cold.

She also said that she brought alcohol for the complainant’s sister, who was 16 at the time, while knowing that she was under the legal age.

In tomorrow’s session, Bell’s testimony will resume.
