Michael Jackson’s Sensitive History With the Court

Lawsuits always make Michael Jackson sick.

First, in 1993, when accusations of sexual misconduct were raised by a 13-year-old boy, Michael canceled his Dangerous tour after performing only five concerts. The pressure caused by the allegations led him to rely on painkillers. Michael was never found guilty for these allegations. The case was closed after Michael Jackson paid at least $15 million to the complainant’s family.

Another such matter relates to the Marcel Avram lawsuit against Michael Jackson in 2002, in which Michael Jackson was forced to pay $5 million in damages for canceling two concerts in 1999.

That year, Michael Jackson became ill after being bitten by a spider so severely that one of the sessions of this court was postponed for that reason as well.

In 2003, Michael was hospitalized due to Dehydration. Brian Oxman, the attorney for the Jackson family, called it “a sensitivity to lawsuits.”

That year, Michael Jackson was sued for allegedly violating copyright law. The court found Michael not guilty.

Oxman told Reuters, “He reacts to the lawsuit. He gets upset. He doesn’t eat anything. He doesn’t drink anything. He can’t sleep.”

He said that throughout his career, Michael Jackson had been involved in such lawsuits more than 1,500 times, and he was generally tired of things like that.

Last month, when the process of selecting the final members of the current jury—hearing the case involving Michael Jackson’s criminal allegations—was underway, Michael was hospitalized for a day and a half due to the flu, which postponed the trial for a week.

And now, his severe back pain has, so far, prevented him from arriving on time in court twice.

First, the judge threatened to have him arrested. But the second time, after a look at Michael twisting in pain, he allowed him into court without saying a word, following a 45-minute delay.

But overall, Judge Melville has not shown much sympathy for Michael Jackson’s physical pain.

Taraborrelli, who wrote the biography of Michael Jackson, “Magic and Madness,” said: “The contradictory thing about Michael Jackson is that he is very strong on stage, but when he is in a situation where he has to behave like an adult, he becomes gentle and fragile.”
