The family lives of jury members could affect the course of the trial

Of every five jury members selected, four of them have children. Among these 242 people, 189 are mothers or fathers, and of those, 98 have children under the age of 18. Legal experts believe that parents with young children may be upset by these allegations, but they may also—based on their own personal experiences with their children—believe that children might not be truthful when telling the facts.

Without a doubt, this was one of the reasons Thomas Mesereau, Michael’s defense attorney, asked the jury members in the previous court session whether, in their opinion, children can lie. Most of them answered that it depends on the child. For example, one of them said, “If it’s in the best interest of the children, they might twist things to some extent.”
