Michael Jackson was released from the hospital
Michael Jackson was released from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, February 16, after a press conference ended in which Dr. Chuck Meryl had said that “Michael still has signs of illness, but his mood is good.” On Tuesday morning, February 15, while he was in his car on the way to the courthouse to attend the court proceedings, he felt nauseous and changed his route to the hospital. Because of his flu, Michael was hospitalized for a day and a half—more precisely, 33 hours.
Michael’s spokesperson, Ms. Raymon Benin, informed that Michael had returned home to Neverland. She said that his nausea and signs of illness had eased somewhat, but that his condition was still not fully well. Michael decided to continue his treatment at home. Dr. described Michael Jackson’s physical condition as stable and said that “Mr. Jackson still needs care for some chronic symptoms of the illness. But on the other hand, his mood is back.” Michael’s treatment includes injections of fluids into his blood vessels.
On Wednesday morning, Michael waved from behind the curtain of his room on the fourth floor of the hospital toward his fans. Some fans who had gathered on the hospital grounds since the night before became excited when they saw Michael. Like always, Michael showed the victory sign with his fingers. He also waved a stuffed teddy bear that, according to the fans, they had given him. An IV tube was attached to his hand. When the fans shouted “We love you, Michael,” a hand holding a piece of paper was brought out of the window. On the paper it read: “I love you more.”
Suzy Mumfield, 23—the same fan who had fainted due to the crowding yesterday and was taken to the hospital—said: “By doing this, he told us that he’s okay. He’s a fighter, and God will help him get through this.” Suzy paused her work at Disneyland so she could show her support for her hero during the six months that the trial is said to last.
A young French man told reporters, “These accusations are unbelievable.” He and his girlfriend came from Paris to Santa Maria to support Michael. They held a placard below the window of Michael Jackson’s room that read: “France loves Michael Jackson, the true victim of this fake show—and supports him.”
Before Michael was released from the hospital, his mother and father, as well as his brothers, Jermaine and Randy, had visited him for several hours at the hospital. Michael Jackson’s fan club representative and the family spokesperson, Angel Howansky, told reporters before Michael’s release:
“It’s definitely the flu. He was sick for almost a week. But now he’s better.”
Reporters and photographers did not witness Michael leaving the hospital. However, they saw two black cars drive toward the entrance doors of the hospital building, and after a few seconds, at 5:30 p.m., they quickly left the area.
Michael is expected to appear in court next week on February 22.
